Day 1

Bucharest

My expectations

First of all I would like to tell you about what I expected. Well, I didn’t expect anything because I hadn’t traveled on that kind of projects before, but I felt great things were to happen.

The arrival

We arrived at about 7:30 in the morning at the Bucharest bus station. The bus stopped at the back of the station and we were all very confused, there were taxi drivers and the only thing we heard from them was "You want taxi?". I can say we were even a bit scared of what we saw although we had a meeting with a woman that was supposed to keep our luggage while we were discovering Bucharest. There she came after several minutes having driven for half an hour on that early Sunday morning just to meet us and help us! Her name is Kristina and she is Corina’s (the Romanian English teacher) friend. She was very kind to us, she gave us an underground map and a city map. She explained to us where we had to go and even gave us a mobile phone to call her if in trouble or when we were ready to go.

The big adventure around Bucharest

While I was just looking at the map out of curiosity I heard ‘’Dancho, you will guide us’’. I looked at the map and accepted.

We went down small neighborhood, heading to the legendary Parliament Building. I can’t even describe the feeling when I looked at it, it was tremendous!!!

We walked around the old Centre and we saw a lot of old and beautiful buildings. We had breakfast at a unique restaurant called Caru’ cu bere. It was great. During our walk we didn’t get lost because of two thing: first - my map reading skills and second, we had a very good dog navigator.

We walked around the Old Centre a little more and it was time to get to Gara De Nord with the underground.

At first we were very confused which train we had to take to go to our objective. Luckily there was a helpful guard. He explained to us where we had to go. We got on the train and started counting the stops.

Finally we got to Gara De Nord and met Kristina to get our luggage. We thanked her, bought tickets and we got on the train to Ploiesti. We were all very tired so we all went to sleep in the train.

To sum it up, I really liked our day in Bucharest. It was followed by several days of making friends, having fun and experiencing the Comenius adventure.

Saying “Good Bye”

The last day came. We had to go to the school at 9 o’clock, so I had only an hour and a half to pack up my luggage. Before I left, the whole family asked me to go into the living room to take a picture. I was so surprised by the look in their eyes, they were all sad because of my leaving. We made a couple of pictures and we left.

While we were driving to the school, I thought that when we get to the school, we would just leave our luggage there, and go for a walk for a couple of hours. When I arrived I was completely stunned to see a group of Romanian boys and girls sitting there and crying and hugging Radi and Glory. When I went to them, they started asking for my facebook account and for my skype, I didn’t expect that when I woke up in the morning. Then we made a lot of pictures to keep that moment. We left our luggage at the school and went through the town for one last time. Ploesti – such a wonderful city!

At around noon we had to get back to the school, get our luggage and go to the bus station. After the bus left I knew that our trip to Romania was over, now we were facing 6 hours of travelling until we reached Sofia.

Thank you for the wonderful stay in Ploesti, I hope that we don’t forget each other, and we meet again on some of the next trips.
